NJ Celebrates Bill Chinnock with a Benefit Concert at the Stone Pony March 27th
(PRWEB) March 14, 2010 -- Asbury Park legends will gather Saturday March 27, 2010 to celebrate the life and music of scene founder Bill Chinnock at the Stone Pony.
Bill Chinnock died in March of 2007 after a long battle with Lyme’s disease. This event marks the first time the New Jersey shore music community will gather to honor his life and his music that contributed so much to the early days of the Asbury Park sound.
Before playing drums for Bruce Springsteen in bands like Child, Steel Mill and the E Street Band, Vini “Maddog” Lopez played in Bill’s Downtown Tangiers band. In speaking of Bill, Lopez says, “Bill was truly one of my dearest friends. Bill was the Boss before Bruce.”
Adding to the excitement of this event will be the release of a re-mastered version of Chinnock’s 1980 “Dime Store Heroes” album. This release, mastered by Adam Ayan at the world renowned Gateway Mastering, features four additional lives tracks recorded at Bill’s 2003 Stone Pony concert. As a bonus, a very limited edition DVD retrospective of Bill’s career will be included and available only at the show. This DVD looks at Bill’s career through the eyes of those who knew and worked with him throughout the years. Interviews include Garry Tallent, Vini Lopez, Robert Santelli and country music legend Harold Bradley.
Born in Newark, NJ in 1947, Chinnock’s early days in Asbury Park included jam sessions at the famed Upstage club, where he crossed paths with future superstars Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny Lyon, as well as future band mates and E Street band members Vini Lopez, Danny Federici, Gary Tallent and David Sancious. He would win an Emmy in 1987 for the theme song “Somewhere in the Night”, which was used as the theme song for the daytime soap “Search for Tomorrow”.
The Saturday, March 27, 2010 concert at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park will bring together many of the great musicians that influenced the Asbury Park sound. Event proceeds will benefit the William Chinnock III trust fund, established to assist for the care and education of Bill’s now 11-year-old son.
