Specialty Packaging Manufacturer, Bert-Co, Releases Recent Case Study on New DVD Release, The Legend of Sasquatch
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 28, 2008 -- Bert-Co, well known for developing packaging concepts, and manufacturer for the entertainment DVD industry, announces a case study of the newly released Legend of Sasquatch DVD.
Design Challenge: Bert-Co's special projects team INNOVATION was challenged to incorporate fabricated fur into the design of a regular DVD amaray slipcase for retail. The client came to us to find materials and create a solution for manufacturing this very unusual package. The client provided the artwork, which called for fur material for the illustration of the legendary Sasquatch, attached in a creative way. After weeks of research, the team came up with several potential solutions. One of the original concepts included plastic eyes for Sasquatch, which moved when shaken.
Solution: The client was given dozens of artificial fur samples to choose from and six or seven concepts to consider.
The most challenging part of any creation is its manufacturability. INNOVATION's solution was to frame the fur between the paper substrates on the outer side, as if in a window, so that the fur could not be torn off at retail and but would still remain accessible to touch.
Once the fur material was chosen, it went through safety testing checking for mechanical hazards. The results indicated that the fur itself was fire repellent but the eyes had to be removed because they were not child safe. As an alternative, we decided to die cut a section in the fur in the shape of eyes, nose and mouth to create Sasquatch's face.
Conclusion: We were able to complete the project with enough lead time to finalize all testing on the fur, hand glue finish thousands of slipcases and deliver pre-sale samples to the client.
